Who is Dominique and what does she do?
I am a french artist, autodidact, living close to Amsterdam for almost 30 years - I spent my time between the Netherlands and France, were I work on my sculptures in both places.
What is your background?
Since I was a kid I was always busy drawing, later I discovered pastels, then clay, and learned how to work on different ways to make sculptures, last years mostly working with wax to make bronze sculptures
What does art mean to you?
My art is like my zen moment, a kind of meditation, I forgot everything when I am in my flow
What do you think art means to people in general? What is the importance of art in the world?
Art is a way to find beauty, emotion, it helps people to focus on the good things in life
How do you work?
I find my inspiration in a beautiful picture and imagine a final piece of art, I start and let my hands find the way to create
Where do you get your inspiration from?
The naked body, male and or female is my only inspiration, the sensuality of movement, dance, equilibre
Which artist or artwork inspires you most?
I admire Camille Claudel a lot, she was the most passionate woman/artist I know
Name 3 artists you would like to be compared to
I hate to be compared to an artist, as I have my own world
What do you hope to achieve in your art career?
The most beautiful compliment is when somebody buys one of my sculptures. It is such an honor and I am blessed to have work in different European countries now.
What do you like and dislike about the artworld?
The artworld nowadays is strange. Sometimes it is enough to have a famous name, in my eyes often it is not art anymore but a way to shock people and to be mentionned in the media. What they call modern art is in my opinion not always art. But then I think art is personnal and I live and let live, I live in my own world.
